Level ladders
Every distance has its own ladder. A step is a fixed run, with the same tasks every time you play it, and a target. Reach the target and the next step opens.

Where the targets come from
No one's scores went into the targets. They are worked out from each game's own settings when the site is built, and every step page shows the arithmetic behind its number:
- Number Span, Flash Grid and Light Trail: the opening size of the level plus one, two, three and so on. A 9-tile target on a level that opens at 3 tiles therefore needs seven correct rounds in a row from the start.
- Quick Sums: the game's own operand bands. The numbers step up after every fifth correct answer, so each new step asks you to reach one band higher.
- Ink & Word: a starting count set by the level (fewer for six colours and for word buttons), plus three answers per step.
- Reaction Time: 420 ms for the simple mode, a little more for left-or-right and go-or-stop, then 20 ms quicker per step. Lower is better.
- Odd One Out: twelve rounds times an allowance per round that grows with the biggest grid of the level, then three seconds less per step.
- Step Back: accuracy in five-point steps. For every step the page lists how many matches found and false taps would still reach it.
A fixed run
Each step has its own run code. The patterns, trails, numbers, sums, words, waits and grids come from that code, so a retry is the same course again. In the recall games the next task also depends on your answers: two players who reach round five with the same pattern size see the same pattern.
Progress
Steps open one after another. A locked step can still be run as practice, but it only counts once the step before it is cleared. Progress is saved in this browser, next to your records.
