For a moment a few tiles light up on the grid. Tap those tiles once they go dark, in any order at all; each clean round makes the next pattern a tile bigger.
How a run works
A run has up to 14 rounds and three lives. Each round opens with a short pause, the pattern lights up, then the tiles go blank and it is your turn. Only the tiles matter, not the order you tap them in.
A correct round adds one tile to the next pattern. A wrong tap costs a life, shows the tiles you missed and takes one tile off the next pattern, so a slip never sends you back to the start.
What counts is the biggest pattern you got through without a slip. Points (every correct pattern added together), rounds and mistakes appear beside it on the result card, with your last twenty runs at that level drawn as a chart.
Levels
- Easy: starts with 3 tiles on a 3×3 grid. Tiles stay lit for 0.9 seconds plus 70 milliseconds per tile.
- Medium: starts with 5 tiles on a 4×4 grid, with a slightly shorter look.
- Hard: starts with 7 tiles and gives the shortest look of the three.
Speed tactics
- Read the shape, not the squares. Three lit tiles in an L are one picture, not three positions to remember.
- Split big patterns. From about eight tiles, take the top half and the bottom half as two small shapes.
- Tap the loner first. A single tile far from the cluster is the first thing to fade, so place it while it is fresh.
- There is no clock on your turn. A calm second to check the picture costs nothing, while a hasty tap costs a life.
- A miss shrinks the next pattern by a tile; treat that smaller round as a chance to find your rhythm again.
Questions
Is there a time limit when I tap the tiles back?
No. The clock only runs while the pattern is on show. Your turn lasts as long as you need.
Why does the grid get bigger?
It widens with the pattern: patterns of up to 4 tiles use 3×3, up to 7 use 4×4, up to 11 use 5×5, up to 16 use 6×6, and anything larger 7×7. The extra room keeps a long pattern readable.
Does it work without a mouse or touchscreen?
Yes. Arrow keys move the focus from tile to tile; Enter taps the focused one.
What is different on the ladder?
Each step of the Flash Grid ladder is a fixed run with a target size; reach it to open the next step. Free play on this page deals a new random run every time.
